Mackinac Island Residence

Project Overview

A new residence on the western shore of Mackinac Island, MI. The house was built on concrete piers to meet the owners’ desire to install the foundation system themselves. Local laws prohibit cars, allowing only limited off-season permits for construction vehicles. The house plans were “panelized” by a home manufacturer. The walls, roofs, and floors were delivered in one day, and assembled in a matter of weeks by a small crew. The mechanicals and exterior finishes were then completed by the owners, and they are currently crafting the interiors in natural pine, keeping with the tradition of the old summer cottages famous on the island.
